For those who suffer from vertigo and its dizzying array of symptoms, finding a treatment that holds promise is often an ongoing task. There are many claims for treatments that promise, what seems to be magical relief from the symptoms, but what helps one person may or may not be as helpful to someone else. Still, it may be to your benefit to consider trying a regimen of vitamins for vertigo – specifically, vitamin B6 and B12. Many have found these B vitamins have helped them felt better and they had fewer issues with vertigo.

Vitamin B6 and the Nervous System

The family of B vitamins is one that has provided many vertigo sufferers some relief from their symptoms. Vitamin B12 for vertigo and vitamin B6 offer support for a healthy nervous system. Part of the nervous system involves the equilibratory system – the ears, inner ear canals, eyes, cranial nerves, and the brain, which are the same parts of the body that are involved with vertigo symptoms. It is important to note that while a lack of vitamin B6 could cause problems that result in dizziness, dizziness is not an indication of a lack of this vitamin.

Finding Your Vitamin B6 for Vertigo

Eating foods that are rich in B6 is the best way to increase your daily intake; some of these foods include cereals, baked potatoes, fish, spinach, bananas, poultry, papayas, oranges, and beans. You should always consult your doctor before taking any vitamin supplements, however, and very high-dose vitamin B6 supplements should be avoided. The recommended daily dose of this vitamin is 1.3 to 1.7 milligrams per day; an extremely excessive regimen of B6 can lead to nerve damage. The Institute of Medicine has set the upper limit intake for adults at 100 milligrams per day, but this amount can only be achieved through high-dose supplements. Your doctor will be able to best guide you on how much vitamin B6 you should add to your diet, without it being too much.

Not Just for Vertigo

In addition to possibly easing symptoms of vertigo, vitamin B6 has also been found useful for treating symptoms of many other disorders and maladies, including tinnitus (ringing in the ears), asthma, Parkinson’s disease, acne, female infertility, depression, carpal tunnel syndrome, and more. If you’re interested in learning more about what vitamin B6 can do for your vertigo symptoms, be sure to speak with your doctor.
